1. Where should you legally leave your firearm while paying? 2. Sign the "Members Book" This is primary evidence for the Firearms Licence attendance requirements. It also helps during insurance claims. 3. Fill out P650 if not completed in the past. 4. Show the cashier your Firearms Licence, to confirm that it is current. 5. Complete the payment record sheet. 6. Tell cashier which ID number/type of rifle you wish to hire, and ammunition. 7. Ask cashier to annotate your P650 records if you are still using it. 8. After paying the cashier, 9. Check that they initial the payment sheet entry. This keeps the treasurer happy. 10. Write your name on the squad sheet, to secure your favorite target number. 11. Repeat for each detail you wish to shoot. 12. Check that you received ammunition, if required. 13. Go set up your mat, telescope and stand.
NOTE: If we had the same Range Officer all the time then they would know that you were a regular, safe, consistant, member, who could be counted on to know and implement the safety rules. In time you both would have built a situation of trust.
We do not operate this way. Each day brings another rostered Range Officer.
You can not rely on consistant manner of operation of your Range Officers. Each of you will be operating in a safe manner but in this situation the Range Officer wins! It is up to you to check with the Range Officer at every step.
You can not come rolling out onto the range with your equipment, as has always been done in the past, because the Range Officer of the day needs exit and entry from the range to be completely at their control - check with the Range Officer.
14. Check with the range officer if OK and then take your paper target down. 15. Check with the range officer if OK to bring your firearm into the shooting area. 16. When handed the rifle DO a SAFETY CHECK on it! How do you know it was safe when put away? Safety check = Point in a safe direction, carefully LOOK at IT, then make safe. DO NOT work the bolt and pull the trigger to see if it goes off. 17. Check that you received ammunition, if required. 18. Wait behind the red line.
